How to get meeting action items automatically
Forgetting a task someone assigned mid-meeting is surprisingly easy. Noter AI reads your transcript and pulls out every action item — with the person responsible — so nothing slips through.

Why manually tracking action items fails
Action items get buried. Someone mentions a deliverable, the conversation moves on, and nobody wrote it down. Even when you do take notes, you often miss the subtler commitments — "I'll check on that" or "Can you send me the report by Friday?" — because you're focused on listening.
Automatically extracted action items solve this by working from the full transcript, not your memory. Every sentence gets analyzed, not just the ones you happened to catch.
How action item extraction works in Noter AI
After every meeting recording or imported audio file, Noter AI runs the transcript through its AI to identify tasks, commitments, and follow-ups. It doesn't just flag keywords like "action" or "todo" — it understands context.
A phrase like "John, can you get me the updated numbers before Thursday?" will surface as an action item assigned to John with a Thursday deadline, even though nobody said the word "task."
Action items appear in a dedicated section of your note, alongside the executive summary and full transcript. You can review them without scrolling through pages of text.
How to get action items from a meeting — step by step
There's nothing extra to configure. Action items are generated automatically for every note that has a transcript.
- 1Record your meeting using Noter AI on iPhone or iPad — on-device recording for in-person meetings, or the bot for Zoom, Teams, Meet, or Webex calls.
- 2Alternatively, import an existing audio file by tapping Import or using the Share extension from another app.
- 3Wait for transcription to finish. This usually takes a few minutes depending on the length of the recording.
- 4Open the note. Scroll past the executive summary to find the Action Items section.
- 5Each item shows the task, the person it's assigned to (when mentioned), and any deadline or timeframe pulled from the conversation.
- 6To dig deeper, use AI Chat — tap the chat icon and ask something like "What did Sarah commit to?" or "List all deadlines from this meeting."
Using AI Chat to go further
The automatic list covers what the AI is confident about, but sometimes you want more. The AI Chat feature lets you ask follow-up questions directly about your note.
For example: "What tasks were assigned but have no deadline?" or "Summarize the action items for the engineering team." You can also query across multiple notes at once — useful for recurring meetings where tasks carry over week to week.
This turns your meeting archive into something you can actually interrogate, not just search.
Sharing and exporting action items
Once you have the action items, you'll likely want to share them with your team. You can export the full note — transcript, summary, and action items included — as a PDF, Word document (.docx), or plain text.
You can also use the rich-text copy option to paste a formatted summary directly into Slack, email, or a project management tool. The export includes everything in one document, so your team gets the context, not just a bare list.
- Export as PDF, Word (.docx), or plain text
- Rich-text copy for pasting into Slack, email, or docs
- Action items include assignees and deadlines pulled from context
- AI Chat for custom queries across one or many notes
Works with every recording method
Action item extraction applies to all recording types — it doesn't matter how the audio got into the app.
Record live with your iPhone microphone. Send the bot into a Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, or Webex call. Import a file from Voice Memos or any audio app via the Share extension. The AI analysis — including action items — runs the same way for all of them.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work if nobody says "action item" out loud?
Yes. The AI understands conversational language and context. Phrases like "I'll follow up on that," "can you handle X," or "let's get that done by Monday" are all recognized as commitments.
Can it assign action items to specific people?
Yes, when names are mentioned in context. If the transcript shows who's responsible, that name appears with the task. If the conversation is vague about ownership, the item is still listed without an assignee.
What if the transcript has errors — does that affect the action items?
Transcription is generally accurate, but errors can occasionally affect extraction. You can edit the transcript and the AI can re-analyze. You can also ask AI Chat to surface anything that might have been missed.
Can I get action items from an old recording I already have?
Yes. Import the audio file into Noter AI via the Share extension or the Import option. Transcription and action item extraction run automatically.
Is this feature included in the basic subscription?
Yes — action item extraction, AI summaries, and AI Chat are all included in the single subscription ($9.99/month or $49.99/year). There's no separate tier.
