Apple Voice Memos and Noter AI: from a memo to meeting notes
If you recorded a meeting in Apple's Voice Memos app, you can send that memo to Noter AI through the share sheet. Noter AI turns it into a note with a transcript, speaker labels, a summary and action items. This works on iPhone and iPad with iOS 17.6 or later.

How it works
- 1Open Voice Memos. Find the recording you want to turn into notes.
- 2Open the share sheet. Tap the memo, tap the more button (three dots), then tap Share.
- 3Choose Noter AI. Tap the Noter AI icon in the row of apps. If you do not see it, scroll to the end of the row and tap More.
- 4Let Noter AI take it from there. The memo goes into the app and processing starts. A 1-hour memo takes about 2 minutes.
- 5Open the note. Read the summary, check the action items, and tap any transcript line to hear that moment again.
Noter AI records, transcribes and summarizes your meetings on iPhone, iPad & Android, in 60+ languages.
Why people keep using Voice Memos
Voice Memos is already on every iPhone, and many people press its red button out of habit when a meeting starts. Some only think about notes later, after the memo is saved. Others keep a long list of old memos from interviews, lectures or client visits that were never written up.
Sharing the memo into Noter AI means you do not have to change that habit. Record the way you always do. When you want notes, send the memo over. For new meetings, you can also record in Noter AI directly; see in-person recording.
What you get
You can also run the same memo through a different output style: minutes of meeting, key bullet points, an email, a to-do list, a formal report, or your own instruction. More on this in summaries.
| Part of the note | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| Transcript | Text in 60+ languages, with the language detected automatically |
| Speakers | Speaker labels you can rename, with a timestamp on every line |
| Summary and analysis | A short summary and a detailed analysis of the memo |
| Action items | Tasks with the person each one belongs to |
| Ask your notes | Questions across one note, several notes or all your notes |
| Export | PDF, Word or plain text |
Sample output
This is an invented example. Sara recorded a 30-minute call with a designer, Omar, in Voice Memos with the phone on speaker. Two days later she shares the memo into Noter AI.
Summary: Omar showed two versions of the launch banner. Sara prefers the darker version but wants a larger app icon.
Decision: go with the dark banner and a larger icon.
Action item: Omar sends the revised banner by Monday.
Action item: Sara writes the banner headline and sends it to Omar by Friday.
Transcript line: [00:18:12] Sara: The dark one reads better, but the icon gets lost at that size.
Limits and honest notes
- You need the Premium plan. Sharing a memo into Noter AI is a Premium feature. A free user sees the plans screen first. See pricing.
- iOS 17.6 or later. The Noter AI option in the share sheet needs iOS 17.6 or a newer version.
- One memo at a time. Share each memo on its own, then repeat for the next one.
- Up to three hours per memo. A longer memo has to be cut into parts first.
- iPhone and iPad only. Voice Memos is an Apple app. On Android, save your recording as an audio file and use the Import button inside Noter AI. See importing audio files.
- Phone calls on speaker only. iOS gives apps no access to call audio. If you record a call in Voice Memos, the call must be on speaker so the microphone hears both sides.
- Tell people you are recording. The law differs by country, and this stays your responsibility.
If Noter AI is missing from the share sheet
- Check your iOS version. Open Settings, then General, then About. You need iOS 17.6 or later.
- Open Noter AI once. Make sure the app is installed and has been opened at least once, then try sharing again.
- Look under More. At the end of the row of app icons, tap More and find Noter AI in the list.
- Save the memo to Files as a fallback. In Voice Memos, use Share and then Save to Files. Then open Noter AI and import the file with the Import button.
Frequently asked questions
How do I send a Voice Memo to Noter AI?
In Voice Memos, tap the memo, tap the three dots, then Share, and choose Noter AI. The memo is processed and appears as a note in the app.
Why can't I see Noter AI when I share a memo?
The share option needs iOS 17.6 or later. If your iPhone is up to date, tap More at the end of the app row and look for Noter AI there.
Can I share several memos at once?
No. Share one memo at a time. Each memo becomes its own note, so you can repeat the steps for the next one.
Does Voice Memos sharing work on the free plan?
No. Sharing audio into Noter AI needs the Premium plan, and a free user is shown the plans screen. Each subscription comes with a free trial.
My memo is in Arabic and English. Will the note be right?
Noter AI detects the language by itself and handles speakers who switch between two languages, even inside one sentence. Arabic is written as formal Modern Standard Arabic.
Can I use this on Android?
Voice Memos only exists on Apple devices. On Android, save the recording as an audio file and import it with the Import button in Noter AI.
Can I read the note on my computer?
Yes. There is no Mac or Windows app, but you can read your notes in a browser at app.noterai.net. You can also export the note as PDF or Word and open it anywhere.
