Noter AI with Siri and Shortcuts: start a recording in one step

On iPhone and iPad you can start a Noter AI recording without looking for the app. Say "start recording in Noter AI" to Siri, press the Action button, or tap a button in Control Center. When the recording ends, a Live Activity shows the note's progress until the transcript, summary and action items are ready.

How it works

  1. 1Install the app. Get Noter AI on iPhone and iPad and open it once so iOS knows its shortcuts.
  2. 2Choose your way in. Use the Siri phrase, put the Noter AI shortcut on the Action button, add the Noter AI button to Control Center, or add the widget to your home screen.
  3. 3Start the recording. Say the phrase, press the button or tap the control. The phone starts recording the room.
  4. 4Put the phone down. The recording keeps going with the screen locked or while you use other apps. One recording can run for up to three hours.
  5. 5Stop and wait for the note. The Live Activity on the Lock Screen, and in the Dynamic Island on iPhones that have one, shows the processing status. A 1-hour recording takes about 2 minutes.

Noter AI records, transcribes and summarizes your meetings on iPhone, iPad & Android, in 60+ languages.

What you get

Every recording you start this way becomes a normal note. It has a transcript with speaker labels and a timestamp on every line, a summary, a detailed analysis and action items with the person each one belongs to. See summaries for the output styles.

Sample output

This is an invented example. Sara is walking into a short Q4 launch check-in with Omar. Her hands are full, so she says "start recording in Noter AI" as she sits down. The meeting lasts 12 minutes.

Example
Q4 launch check-in (example)

Summary: Omar confirmed the store pages are ready. The launch email is late by two days because the final screenshots are not approved.

Decision: keep the launch date. Send the email on the morning of launch day.

Action item: Sara approves the final screenshots by Wednesday.

Action item: Omar schedules the launch email once the screenshots are in.

Transcript line: [00:07:41] Omar: If I get the screenshots on Wednesday, the email still goes out on time.

Which shortcut to use when

Each way in fits a different moment. You can set up all of them and use the one that is closest.

  • Siri is for when your hands are busy: carrying a laptop into a room, driving to a site visit, or holding a coffee at a standing meeting.
  • The Action button is for people who record often. One press opens Noter AI and starts the recording, and you do not have to speak.
  • Control Center is for quiet rooms where talking to your phone would interrupt. Swipe down, tap the Noter AI button, and put the phone on the table.
  • The widget is for when your phone is already unlocked on the home screen and you want the app close at hand.
  • The Live Activity is useful after the meeting. You can see that the note is still being processed without opening the app, and you can also follow a meeting bot you sent to a video call.

Limits and honest notes

  • iPhone and iPad only. The Android app has no Siri phrase, Action button shortcut, Control Center button, widget or Live Activity. On Android you start a recording inside the app. See how to record a meeting on Android.
  • Some shortcuts depend on your device. The Action button and the Dynamic Island exist only on some iPhone models. The Control Center button needs iOS 18 or later. Every shortcut opens the app to record, because iPhone only lets an open app use the microphone.
  • These shortcuts record the room. They use the phone microphone. To capture a Zoom, Teams, Meet or Webex call you are joining from a laptop, send the meeting bot instead.
  • Phone calls are not captured directly. iOS gives apps no access to call audio. Put the call on speaker and record the room.
  • You must tell people they are being recorded. A quick shortcut does not change that. The rules differ by country, and telling people is your responsibility.

Setting up the shortcuts

Open Noter AI once after you install it. After that, iOS lists the Noter AI shortcut in the places where you choose what the Action button does and what appears in Control Center.

For the Action button, open the iPhone Settings app, go to the Action button page and pick the Noter AI shortcut. For Control Center, swipe down, enter edit mode and add the Noter AI control. For the widget, press and hold an empty part of the home screen, tap the button to add a widget, and search for Noter AI.

The Siri phrase needs no setup. Say "start recording in Noter AI" and Siri hands the request to the app.

Frequently asked questions

What do I say to Siri to start a recording?

Say "start recording in Noter AI". Siri passes the request to the app and the recording starts. You do not need to create the shortcut yourself.

Can I start a Noter AI recording from the Lock Screen?

Yes. The Action button, the Control Center button and Siri all open Noter AI and start the recording. If the phone is locked, iPhone asks you to unlock it first with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode, because the app needs to open to use the microphone.

Does the recording stop if the screen turns off?

No. The recording keeps going with the screen locked and while you use other apps. A single recording can run for up to three hours.

What does the Live Activity show?

It shows the status of a note while it is being processed, and the status of a meeting bot you sent to a video call. On iPhones with a Dynamic Island it appears there as well as on the Lock Screen.

Is there a Siri shortcut or widget on Android?

No. These shortcuts are part of the iPhone and iPad app only. On Android, open Noter AI and tap record inside the app.

Do I need to pick a language before I start a recording by voice?

No. Noter AI detects the language on its own, across 60+ languages. A meeting where people switch between two languages is handled as well.

Can I use these shortcuts to record a Zoom call on my laptop?

They record what the phone microphone hears, so they work if the call plays on a speaker in the room. For a call you join from a laptop, sending the meeting bot gives you a direct recording of the call.
